1/21/2021 · You progress through each division and tier by earning League Points (LP) for games that your team win. The exact amount of points is determine d by your Matchmaking Rating (MMR). If you’re victorious against a team with a higher MMR than yours, you will gain more LP than if you were to beat a team with a lower MMR than yours.
League of Legends has a ranking system called the League system, matching players of a similar skill level to play with and against each other. It comprises nine tiers which indicate the skill level of players. Players within each division are ranked using a system of points called League Points (LP).
LP system is calculated with the input of MMR along with some other calculations which are not public. Since I worked with Elo Rating System and played LoL a LOT, I can give an estimation how it is calculated. Riot didn’t want players to switch too fast or too slow between leagues so LP is the rating system balancing this. Let’s say you are 1820.

12/1/2020 · While playing your placement games, you start gaining League Points “LP” per win, but you don’t lose any LP after a loss, but that game will count because your LP gains in placement games are inflated to get you to your starting division. After you finish the ten placement games, you start losing LP per loss but gain a lot of points per win.
